Here is a photo of a student using the motion sensor. In this photo, the motion sensor plots the movement of a student on a position-time graph in red. The student is trying to match her movements to a black line that is already drawn on the graph. The purpose of the activity is to help students internalize information about a position-time graph relative to the slope of a line and speed. It is a super fun and engaging day of science for the 8th grade students (they continue to ask if we can use the motion sensor again, and many of them do during study hall).
